Morcem® Dry F

Morcem Dry F is a cement-based waterproofing mortar, suitable for swimming pools, tanks, pits, basements, and other structures subject to water pressure. Its application creates a continuous barrier against water ingress, allowing the protection of vertical or horizontal surfaces in permanent contact with moisture.
It adheres effectively to concrete, mortar or traditional masonry substrates, and acts as a waterproof coating even beneath ceramic tiles. Thanks to its ability to withstand both positive and negative water pressure, it provides a safe and reliable solution against leakage in environments with high humidity or permanent immersion.

Durability

Carbonation rate.
Based on tests carried out at the Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Sciences in accordance with standard UNE-EN 12390-10 – Determination of the carbonation resistance of concrete at atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide, with a test duration of one year, a carbonation rate (K) of 0 mm/year⁰·⁵ (no carbonation profile observed) was obtained for Morcem Dry F in the case of specimens subjected to freeze–thaw tests with thermal shock and prior immersion in a saturated de-icing salt solution. Likewise, a carbonation rate (K) of 0 mm/year⁰·⁵ (no carbonation profile observed) was obtained for specimens not subjected to freeze–thaw tests with thermal shock and prior immersion in a saturated de-icing salt solution.
These values can be incorporated into models for estimating the service life of reinforced concrete elements due to corrosion and used to calculate the carbonation depth using the equation: P = K * t0,5, where “P” is the carbonation depth in mm, “K” is the carbonation rate in mm/year0,5, and “t” is time in years.

Suitable Substrates

  • The substrate must be sound (minimum tensile strength 1 N/mm²), in good condition, clean, free from grease, oils, dust and poorly adhered parts, and fully cured (7 days per cm of thickness).
  • Absorbent substrates will be previously moistened until saturation, avoiding puddles.
  • Cracks and damaged concrete must be repaired beforehand using MORCEMREST RF 35 or injection resins such as RESINA INYECCION BV.
  • For the waterproofing of terraces, swimming pools and balconies with existing coverings, the following must be ensured:
    • The existing render is well bonded to the substrate (stable substrate).
    • The ceramic tiles  are completely clean: free from dust, dirt, grease, varnishes, waxes, oils, mould, lime residues, etc.

NOTE: For this type of application, prior consultation with the Technical Department is required.

Application Procedure

Mixing the mortar:

  • Manually or Mechanically mix Component A powder with 3/4 of Component B liquid. Subsequently, add the remaining liquid component and mix again until achieving a homogeneous mixture.

Application:

  • Moisten the surface avoiding any water excess. MORCEM DRY F must be applied in two layers, each 1 mm thick, using a paint brush, short-haired roller, or by projection.
  • Apply a first layer following one direction and let it dry for one to two hours (at 20ºC). Apply a second layer in the opposite direction after this time. As the setting time can vary depending on environmental conditions, it should be noted that the purpose of this operation is to apply a second layer without mixing with the first one, so that both ultimately act monolithically. Under no circumstance apply when the first layer is too dry, as this would result in a two-coat scheme where the adhesion and stability of the whole could be damaged.
  • To treat cracks subject to possible movement and at critical points, reinforce the coating with MALLA DRY POOL fibreglass mesh. Apply a first coat of MORCEM DRY F. Embed the DRY POOL mesh with the second layer of MORCEM DRY F, allow to dry, and then apply a third layer. Ensure MALLA DRY POOL is completely embedded, forming a "sandwich" structure.
  • The final finish can be conducted with a normal trowel or a sponge square plastering trowel, depending on the texture desired.
    • The MORCEM DRY F should be applied as uniformly as possible to avoid an excess of material that could cause cracks in it.
    • Wait for at least 4 days before filling with water.
    • Wait at least 24–48 hours before tiling. C2 S1 adhesive should be suitable for the tiling (refer to the adhesive's technical sheet), choose the adhesive according to the tiles that are going to be placed and the area. Respect construction joints (expansion, contraction, partitioning, perimeter corner joints) and placement between tiles (minimum 2 mm inside and 5 mm outside).
  • At critical points, it is recommended to reinforce the rendering with MALLA DRYPOOL or BANDTEC. Apply according to Technical Data Sheet.

Curing:

  • Protect against wind, sun, and sun during hardening. To prevent excessive drying, it is advisable to cover the surface with damp sackcloth or plastic during the curing process.

Recommendations

  • Do not apply the product under 5ºC nor above 30ºC temperature.
  • Do not apply under the risk of frost, rain, heavy wind, or direct sun light, or either cover it.
  • To ensure a correct waterproof, minimum thickness should be 2 mm.
  • In critical points of the element to be waterproofed, it is recommended to create a sandwich-type render between both the layers using a strip of MALLA DRYPOOL, it should be placed with overlaps, with a minimum width of 5 cm, and as carefully as possible to avoid wrinkles or folds in the MALLA DRYPOOL. Alternatively, reinforce with BANDTEC. Please check Technical Data Sheets before applying any of them.
  • It is advisable to conduct an application of MORCEMREST RF 35 in 5 x 5 cm half-round shape in the union between wall-wall, wall-floor, and wall-ceiling.
  • Consult with the Technical Department for any application not specified in this Technical Data Sheet.
  • For any information regarding safety in handling, transportation, storage, and use of the product, please refer to the label and the updated version of the product's Safety Data Sheet.
  • Do not add cement, sand, or other substances that may affect the properties of the material.
  • The tools and equipment should be cleaned with solvent immediately after use to prevent the material from hardening, which will need to be removed by mechanical means.
  • Clean the surface with clean water 48 hours after. Repeat the same operation 2 times at least before filling the tank.
  • Consult with the Technical Department for any application not specified in this Technical Data Sheet. For any information regarding safety in handling, transportation, storage, and use of the product, please refer to the label and the updated version of the product's Safety Data Sheet.
