Technical Characteristics

Product based on high-strength grey cement, selected aggregates, special additives and resins.

Advantages and Uses

Waterproofing of:

  • External and internal waterproofing of concrete, mortar and concrete-block structures exposed to positive pressure, such as tanks, reservoirs, cisterns, swimming pools, fountains, etc.
  • Protection of surfaces exposed to freeze-thaw action: cantilevers, balconies, cornices, ornamental elements, etc.
  • Can be covered with ceramic tiles using PEGOLAND® FLEX.
  • Can be painted with elastomeric paints or acrylic mortars: MORCEMCRIL range.
  • Resistant to freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Resistant to carbonation.
  • High adhesion to the substrate.
  • Stable substrates.
  • Semi-flexible mortar compared with a traditional mortar.
  • For indoor and outdoor application.
  • Impermeable to water.
  • Permeable to water vapour.
  • Resistant
  • Easy to mix and apply.
  • MORCEM® DRY SF PLUS complies with the requirements established in Royal Decree 3/2023, which sets the health criteria for the quality of water intended for human consumption.

Durability

Carbonation rate
Tests carried out at the Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science in accordance with UNE EN 12390-10 - Determination of the carbonation resistance of concrete at atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide over a period of 1 year, gave Morcem Dry SF Plus a carbonation rate (K) of 2,08 mm/year0,5 for samples previously subjected to freeze-thaw testing with thermal shock and immersion in a saturated de-icing salt solution, and a carbonation rate (K) of 0 mm/year0,5 (no carbonation profile) for samples not previously subjected to freeze-thaw testing with thermal shock and immersion in a saturated de-icing salt solution.
These values may be incorporated into models for estimating service life with respect to corrosion of reinforced concrete elements and may be used to calculate carbonation depth using the expression: P = K * t0,5, where “P” is the carbonation depth expressed in mm, “K” is the carbonation rate expressed in mm/year0,5 and “t” is the time expressed in years.

Suitable Substrates

  • Concrete, smooth precast concrete blocks and cement-rich renders.
  • Not suitable for ceramic substrates.
  • The substrate must be firm (minimum tensile strength 1N/mm2), stable, sound and clean, free from dust, release-agent residues, organic products, etc.
  • In hot or windy conditions, or on highly absorbent substrates, dampen the substrate and wait until the surface water film has disappeared.
  • Substrates not subject to significant movement.
  • Static cracks and damaged concrete must first be repaired with MORCEMREST® RF 35.

Application Procedure

  • Mechanically mix powder Component A with 3/4 of liquid Component B. Then add the remaining liquid component and mix again until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

Application:

  • Dampen the surface without leaving excess water. MORCEM® DRY SF PLUS is applied in two coats, each 1 mm thick, by brush, short-pile roller or spray application.
  • Apply the first coat in one direction and allow it to set for one or two hours (at 20ºC). After this time, apply a second coat in the opposite direction. As setting time may vary depending on environmental conditions, the purpose is to apply the second coat when the first coat no longer rolls up, so that the two ultimately act monolithically. Under no circumstances apply the second coat when the first is too dry, as this would create a two-layer system in which the adhesion and overall stability could be compromised.
  • At critical points, it is recommended to reinforce the coating with MALLA DRYPOOL or BANDTEC. Apply in accordance with the technical data sheet.
  • The final finish may be produced by smoothing with a trowel or floating with a sponge float, depending on the desired texture.
  • Apply MORCEM® DRY SF PLUS as uniformly as possible to avoid excess material, which could cause cracking.
  • Wait at least 4 days before filling with water.
  • Wait at least 24-48 h before covering with ceramic tiles.

Curing:

  • Protect from wind, frost and sunlight during hardening. To prevent excessive drying, cover the surface with damp hessian or plastic sheeting during curing.

Recommendations

  • Do not apply below 5ºC or above 30ºC.
  • Preferably do not apply where there is a risk of frost, rain, strong winds or direct sunlight; otherwise, protect the application.
  • To ensure waterproofing, the minimum thickness must be 2 mm.
  • At critical points of the element to be waterproofed, it is recommended to reinforce the coating in a sandwich configuration between the two coats using a strip of MALLA DRYPOOL. Install it with overlaps at least 5 cm wide and as carefully as possible, avoiding air pockets or folds in the MALLA DRYPOOL; alternatively reinforce with BANDTEC. Consult the technical data sheets for both products regarding application.
  • At wall-to-wall, wall-to-slab and wall-to-ceiling junctions, it is recommended to form a 5 x 5 cm cove using MORCEMREST RF 35.
  • Consult the Technical Department for any application not specified in this Technical Data Sheet.
  • For all information concerning safety in handling, transport, storage and use of the product, consult the latest version of the product Safety Data Sheet.
  • Do not add cement, sand or other substances that may affect the properties of the material.
  • Clean tools and equipment with water immediately after use to prevent the material from hardening, in which case it will have to be removed mechanically.
  • Wash the waterproofed surface with clean water 48 hours after application. Repeat the operation at least twice before filling the tank.
